Sunny Willow Swim Team to Join the Colonial Swim League for the 2010 Season!
After many decades of fine competition and camaraderie in the Delaware Valley Swim League, Sunny Willow is sad to see the end of an era. However, we look forward to the exciting opportunities and new level of competition which will greet us as we enter into the Colonial Swim League!
The Sunny Willow Swim and Diving Team welcomes club members age 5 to recent high school graduates. Swimming requirements for team members 12 & under are that each member has passed the club swimming test, which demonstrates the ability to swim 2 lengths of the pool without stopping (one of which is freestyle or crawl) and tread water for 30 seconds. The mission of the Sunny Willow Swim Team is to provide an opportunity for team members to participate in a safe, healthy, fun and competitive summer swimming experience. Our goal is to improve skill and understanding in the sport of competitive swimming and diving, develop camaraderie and friendship with team members, learn sportsmanship, and most importantly, to have fun!
We are excited to have Julie Bollinger return as our head swim coach and Lou Pompilii return as head diving coach. Nicole Romano will return as Assistant Swim Coach, and Steve Cohen will return as Assistant Diving Coach.
The Colonial League has 7 other teams in the league, including Ft. Washington, Maple Manor, Manorlu, Hideaway, Maplewood, Upper Moreland, and Lenape Valley. Meets are Saturday morning and Tuesday evenings, with one meet on a Thursday evening. With an 8-team league, there are 7 dual meets, one Diving Championships, “B” Swimming Champs and “A” Swimming Champs. The top 18 swimmers in each stroke participate in A Champs, and there is one official relay for each team for each age group. In dual meets we will swim every stroke, including IM’s, and the season will finish by the end of July. The teams range in size from just under 100 to over 200 swimmers/divers. This first season will be a probationary period for Sunny Willow in the league. The Colonial League takes its probationary period very seriously, and expects all teams to follow the guidelines and bylaws established by the league.
